  • Damascus Gate - Jerusalem's most beautiful gate which led to the Syrian city of Damascus
  • Pool of Bethesda - pool where Jesus healed an infirmed man
  • Model of Old Testament Jerusalem
  • Western "Wailing" Wall - the most sacred Jewish site in Jerusalem
  • Christ Church

Old Testament Jerusalem 


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • City of David Excavations - the original Canaanite city of Jebus, which David made the ancient capital of Israel
  • Warren's Shaft - an underground excavation tunnel beneath the City of David
  • Hezekiah's Tunnel - a 1750-foot tunnel constructed by King Hezekiah to bring water into the city
  • Pool of Siloam - site where Jesus healed "a man blind from birth" 
  • Model of New Testament Jerusalem - a model of Herodian Jerusalem as it looked at the time of Christ
  • Israel Museum and Shrine of the Book - the home of archeological treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls

Jerusalem in the Time of Christ

  • Pool of Bethesda - pool where Jesus healed an infirmed man
  • Mount of Olives - the place where Jesus wept over Jerusalem, and where prophecy says He will return
  • Garden of Gethsemane - where Jesus prayed and was betrayed
  • The Garden Tomb - an ancient tomb similar to the one in which Christ was buried

Friday, May 18

New Testament Jerusalem 


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Western Hill - one of two hills on which the city of Jerusalem was built
  • Herodian Quarter - excavated homes of aristocratic families in the Herodian period
  • Burnt House - a multimedia presentation of the history of the Roman destruction of Jerusalem
  • Southern Temple Excavations - expansion of the Temple Mount under Herod the Great

 

Saturday, May 19

The Land of Benjamin

  • Judean Wilderness - mountainous desert to the east of Jerusalem which descends to the Dead Sea
  • Jericho - the ancient Canaanite city, Israel's first conquest
  • Geba-Michmash - two cities, separated by "the Pass," which Jonathan used to defeat the Philistine army
  • Gibeah of Saul
  • Nebi Samwil - the traditional (but highly disputed) location of ancient Ramah, Samuel's home and burial place
  • Beth Horon Ridge Route - strategic border between the tribes of Benjamin and Ephraim
  • Gezer - Canaanite city-state associated with Joshua and Solomon

Judean Hill Country

  • Ketef Hinnom Tomb - site where the oldest surviving text from the Hebrew Bible was discovered
  • Jerusalem Promenade
  • Bethlehem - the place of Jesus' birth
  • Herodium - the fortress built by Herod the Great which became his burial place

Southern Area Preview

  • Western Wall Tunnel - underground tunnel exposing the full length of the Western Wall

Free time in the afternoon to rest or explore the Old City of Jerusalem, then a preview of the southern area of Israel.

Shephelah  


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Beth Shemesh - where the Philistines returned the Ark of the Covenant to the Israelites
  • Azekah - city where the Amorite kings were defeated by Joshua
  • Elah Valley - the famous battlefield of David and Goliath
  • Lachish - second most important city in ancient Judah

 

Wednesday, May 23

Negev & Wilderness  


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Beersheba - the winter home of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the southernmost city of Biblical Israel
  • Arad - the ruins of a temple patterned after God's Temple in Jerusalem
  • Wilderness of Zin - one of two locations of the Israelite wilderness wanderings
  • Eilat - Israel's port on the Red Sea and the former location of King Solomon's fleet

Eilat


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Timna - home of Egypt’s ancient copper mines and the red-hued Pillars of Solomon
  • Tabernacle in the Wilderness - a replica of the Tabernacle
  • Aravah - desolate land of the Jordan Rift Valley stretching from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba

Snorkeling in the Red Sea, one of the most spectacular coral reefs in the world.

Dead Sea

  • Nazareth - the boyhood hometown of Jesus

  • Tiberias - leading religious, administrative and cultural center in the Galilee during the Roman period
  • Gennesaret
  • Bethsaida - the city known as the "house of fishing" at the time of Christ

  • Hazor - a powerful city where Joshua won a decisive battle during the conquest
  • Chorazin - a dwelling place of a community rebuked for their lack of faith

  • Jordan Rift Valley - the fertile valley stretching from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea which separates Israel from the Transjordan

Friday, June 1

Samaria 


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Shiloh - the original location of the Ark of the Covenant
  • Mount Gerizim - two hills surrounding Shechem where the Israelites gathered to recite God's law during the Conquest

An opportunity to participate in an archaeological excavation.


Saturday, June 2

From Galilee to Jerusalem

  • Old City of Jerusalem - Free time in the Old City to bargain with shopkeepers, return to a site that held special meaning, or sip Turkish coffee at a sidewalk café.

Homeward Bound 


With heart-changing memories of our walk in the footsteps of history, we arrive back in the United States.
