Greece

Arrival in Greece

  • Arrival into Thessaloniki, Greece - You will be met and assisted through customs, introduced to your driver, and transferred to your hotel.

Philippi

DAY 3

Philippi


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Kavala - the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia
  • Ignatian Way - the ancient Roman road Paul traveled from Athens to Philippi
  • Philippi - the city where an earthquake miraculously freed Paul and Silas from prison

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Thessaloniki - the city where Paul established a Jew/Gentile mixed church before being forced to flee from an angry mob
  • Berea - the city where Paul discovered "noble" Jews in the synagogue
  • Vergina - the tomb of the Macedonian king, Phillip II, father of Alexander the Great

Delphi

DAY 5

Delphi


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Delphi - the location of one of the most significant ancient Greek religious sites, the Oracle of Delphi
  • Delphi Museum - houses the artifacts found during the site's archaeological excavations
  • Sanctuary of Asclepius - the Greek god of medicine and one of the most devotedly worshiped gods at Delphi

Corinth

Corinth

  • Corinth - the city where Paul lived for 18 months and wrote the book of Romans
  • Corinth Museum - houses the artifacts found during archaeological excavations
  • Corinth Canal - narrow channel which separates the Peloponnese peninsula from mainland Greece

Mykonos

  • Mykonos Island - a small island in the southern Aegean Sea, known for its blue waters and white washed houses 

Ephesus

  • Kusadasi, Turkey - a resort town on Turkey's Aegean coast
  • Ephesus - "The Loveless Church" cautioned to remember their first love and repent
  • Patmos - the island where John wrote Revelations in exile

Rhodes

DAY 9

Rhodes


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Rhodes Island - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Colossus of Rhodes statue, stood overlooking the main harbor - the island is considered the gateway to the Aegean Sea between Turkey and Greece
  • Lindos - a natural citadel, the acropolis of Lindos is a fortified structure which rises above the town below

Santorini

DAY 10

Santorini and Crete 


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Island of Crete - the largest of the Greek islands, it was once the center of the Minoan maritime empire
  • Palace of Knossos - located in Europe's oldest city, Greek mythology claims the palace was home to King Minos who constructed the labyrinth to contain the Minotaur
  • Santorini - considered the most picturesque of the Greek island with its steep cliffs, white and blue buildings, and crystal clear waters

Athens

DAY 11

Athens 


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Athens - the capital of ancient Greece and the very heart of classical antiquity
  • Agora - the gathering place for Greek political, spiritual, artistic, and athletic assemblies
  • Mars Hill - the location where Paul preached about idolatry and the altar to the "unknown God"
  • Acropolis - a high, rocky outcrop above Athens containing several historic temples 
  • Parthenon - the dominating temple to the goddess Athena
  • Plaka - a neighborhood built around the ancient Agora and a great place for people watching and souvenir shopping

Coliseum

DAY 12

Rome


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Circus Maximus - the venue for the ancient sport of chariot racing
  • Palatine Hill - the largest hill overlooking the city and according to Roman mythology, the birthplace of the city's founders, Romulus and Remus
  • Mamertine Prison - the traditional location of both Peter and Paul's imprisonments 
  • Roman Forum - the center of ancient Roman public life and its primary commercial center 
  • Trajan Market - the world's oldest shopping mall and administrative offices for Emperor Trajan
  • Arch of Constantine - built by the Roman senate to commemorate a victory of Emperor Constantine
  • Coliseum - one of Rome's greatest architectural achievements and home of gladiatorial contests, mock battles, and mythological dramas

Rome


SITES YOU WILL VISIT
  • Vatican City - the center of the Roman Catholic Church and the smallest independent country in the world 
  • Sistine Chapel - a chapel in the official residence of the Pope, known for it's ceiling painted by the Renaissance artist Michelangelo
  • St. Peter's Basilica - one of the holiest Roman Catholic sites and the traditional burial place of Peter
  • Catacombs - underground burial crypts beneath the city
  • Piazza Navona - a large, public square which features some of Rome's most beloved sculptural and architectural creations
  • Spanish Steps - the iconic, butterfly-shaped stairs is an elegant gathering place for locals and tourists alike
  • Trevi Fountain - a Baroque-era masterpiece and one of the most famous fountains in the world
