  • Arrive Cairo (CAI) - An airport representative will greet and escort you through airport procedures, baggage claim, and connect you with your private transfer to your hotel. Upon check-in at your luxury hotel, you will be free to relax and to explore at your own pace.
  • Dinner - at your leisure at one of the many Four Seasons restaurants available or enjoy room service (not included in tour cost).

  • Memphis - the first capital in the ancient world.
  • Sakkara - the necropolis of Memphis and oldest stone building complex in the world, including the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the first limestone structure ever built. Explore its colored tombs over 4,000 years old, and see ancient Hieroglyphics that have been engraved on the walls for thousands of years.
  • Coptic Cairo - site of the old Fortress of Babylon, built at the time of the Romans to protect the country from invading enemies. The walls of the fortress enclose the Church of St. Sergius, built on a crypt considered to be one of the places where Mary, Joseph, and Jesus rested after fleeing Israel and King Herod during their flight to Egypt 2,000 years ago.

Sailing the Nile River

Wednesday, January 8

A Walk through the Past

  • Day of Sailing - ~ Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Nile River as you float and fellowship
  • Kom Ombo Temple - a unique Greco-Roman temple dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus the Elder (also called Haroeris), and Sobek, the crocodile god. The ancient Egyptians believed that by honoring the fearsome crocodile as a god, they would be safe from attacks. We will stop at the Crocodile Mummification Museum, where you can see crocodile mummies that are thousands of years old.

  • Disembark Ship - a fond farewell to those who have served us aboard the Historia.
  • Elephantine Island - a tiny island in the Nile river on which one of the first diaspora Jewish communities outside of Israel lived and a temple to Yahweh once stood.
  • Flight to Cairo - direct from Aswan (afternoon)
